3 Goals this Mama Wants to Keep!

Another year has come and gone. I find it funny that we set resolutions each year with good intentions to meet them, but somehow in the midst of being a busy mom, wife, working professional…we’d forget them right around February.

Well, this year is different, right? Sure. Let’s set some because it will make us feel good about ourselves and even better when we find out in December that we did. Here are three of my goals:

Stay healthy.

This one is on my list every year, but most of the time it’s a mental goal. This year, I am writing it down. After having my second baby this past February, my goal was to get back into pre-baby weight within nine months since it took nine months to grow a baby in your belly. Right. I did lose weight but I didn’t stay healthy.

So that is my first new year’s resolution, to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This means working out consistently and eating healthy. I’m part of a workout group where I work out with other mamas and their little ones. The workout is intense but I get to meet other moms that have similar interests and lifestyle as me. I also discovered a recipe website that offers simple and easy recipes and the meals are delicious. My favorite so far is their kid-friendly turkey chili, but since my 5 ½-year-old son wouldn’t eat it, I took the “Kid-Friendly” part out and made it a little spicier than what the recipe calls for.  So staying healthy means working out AND eating healthy.

Give kids undivided attention.

This one is hard, SO HARD. I am a multi-tasker and a time-conscious person. So I find myself checking emails while playing Legos with my son, or while my baby girl crawls and plays in her room. I know I should be focusing on them and give them my undivided attention, but I also know that I can answer that one customer email or respond to that text to my girlfriend about so and so. Ugh. Why do I do that? So, with this goal, I plan to not take my phone with me into my kids’ rooms when we are playing.

Budget better.

Don’t we all want to do this, and do it effectively? My husband turned over the finance duties to me this past year in hopes I can see how our money goes in and out of the bank account. Boy, did I see it go… I have to say I was doing a good job until November/December came. I did not and haven’t ever budgeted for the holidays. I have a mental amount but didn’t plan to set money aside each month to prepare for holiday shopping. I have to say though; I am good at cutting coupons and finding deals. I refuse to pay anything retail. This year, I plan to go back to what I learned from David Ramsey when we were a part of Financial Peace University at our church. We don’t have any credit card debt which is good but swiping that puppy each time seems so easy until the monthly bill pops up online. So my goal here is to spend less and save more.

What are your goals? Whether you follow through or not, write them down, better yet, comment below and it will be fun to refer back to your goals in a month or so to see where you stand.
