Here is what is happening in June!

June 1st | International Children’s Day Pretend City

Pretend City Children’s Museum is an appropriate place to celebrate International Children’s Day. Kids can play some parachute games in the morning (11:30 am) and Simon Says in the afternoon (3:30 pm). The museum will also have activities that will help raise awareness in kids about their fellow children around the world who are less fortunate that they are as well as issues that these youngsters must deal with.

June 3rd & 17th | The Lemon Grove Market in Irvine

Orange County residents will have the opportunity to shop local and handmade goods starting this June at the new Lemon Grove Market that will be at the Woodbury Town Center at 6200 Irvine Blvd. in Irvine starting on Saturday, June 3rd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

40 specialty makers, cottage food industry bakers, locally grown citrus from Garcia’s Organic Farm will participate in this new curated outdoor market. It will also feature unique specialty items including small batch natural bath and body products, fine leather goods, home accessories, clothing boutiques, jewelry, and fresh cut flowers.

June 3rd  | Beachfront Cinema Series The Sandlot

The Sandlot meets the sand tonight. Families can reserve a spot on the beach and watch this PG-rated movie about kids playing baseball and having mischievous adventures during the summer of 1962. This outdoor cinema series, which will show films into October, also offers jumbo beanbags, food vendors, live bands, contests, games and a huge inflatable screen. Gates open at 5 pm; films screen at dusk. Check its website because movies titles and dates are subject to change.

June 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th | OC Parks Sunset Cinema

Saturday night is free family movie night this summer, courtesy of the County of Orange and OC Parks. Brea’s Carbon Canyon Park hosts the first two screenings: Pete’s Dragon (June 3) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (June 10). The film series, which runs through August 18, moves to Fullerton’s Craig Regional Park with The Lego Batman Movie screening June 17, following by The Princess Bride on the last Saturday of June.

June 4th | Essential Oils for Pregnancy, Babies & Kids

In this class, we will be demystifying essential oil use for pregnancy, birth, new mamas, and kids from birth to teenage years. Safety tips, recipes, and real-life stories! Learn how to use oils in practical and effective ways in the craziness of everyday life

June 4th | Story Time in the Garden

Kids (ages 3-8) can experience a bucolic book time in the Great Park’s great outdoors. The stories will look at all the wonderful things that can be found in the garden, and perhaps also spark children’s imaginations about nature. Please bring a gently used books that will be donated to the Farm + Food Lab’s Little Free Library. June 7 is the final spring story-time, with June 21 the start of the summer series.

June 4th | KidzBop

Things will be rockin’ at the Honda Center when Kidz Bop makes a stop in Anaheim on their “Best Tour Ever” tour. This all-new show will feature the all-new Kidz Bop crew, as a new quartet of kids became Bop-pers earlier this year. These talented tweens are showcased on the group’s 34th CD, which is stocked with their spirited renditions of today’s top hits. Concert-goers will see why Billboard Magazine named them “#1 Kids’ Artist” for the past seven consecutive years.

June 7th  | Pajama Rama at the Yorba Linda Library

You are invited to dress up in your comfy p.j.’s for an evening at the library. Everyone can enjoy a fun time, which will include songs, stories, and puppets. There will also be refreshments to add for the party mood. Plus, you can bring your favorite stuffed animal too. And the festivities will be finished by 8 pm, so parents can get home before their bedtimes!

June 7th | Concerts in the Park

GATHER THE FAMILY, CALL YOUR FRIENDS, AND IN INVITE YOUR NEIGHBORS to enjoy this summer’s free Concerts in the Park. The 2017 musical lineup will include a variety of exhilarating entertainment that will get you tapping your feet and dancing to the beat. Seating is limited, so remember to bring a beach chair and blankets. Food will be available for purchase. Walk your children over to the Reading Village for a comfy story time and a free a book to take home.  Make sure to sign up for opportunity drawings for prizes that take place at intermission. 

June 8th | Family Evening at the Huntington Library

For all ages. Enjoy our once a month storytime for families.with music, dance and song. Children may wear their pajamas and NCL will be handing out cookies to the children after storytime.

June 9th | Sunset Moonrise Hike at the Reserve in Mission Viejo

The waning light of the day’s sun and the waxing light of the rising moon will light our way as we explore The Reserve at night.  Join us for a hike in the twilight and the moonlight.

June 9th | Stuffed Animal Vet Clinic at the OC Zoo

Bring your favorite stuffed animal to the zoo and have it checked out by our zoo veterinary staff!Come between 10am-12pm and our zoo animal doctors and the team will help make your stuffed friend all better.

June 10th | Irish Fair & Music Fest

The Irish are coming to El Dorado Park! The festival, which has been around for over 40 years, makes its debut this year at this Long Beach park. The weekend will come alive with Irish music and dance performances, and don’t forget the always popular sheep-herding exhibition! You can indulge in some Irish food and libations too. Youngster will want to visit the Leprechaun Village, where they can enjoy story-telling, rides, and a Freckle Face competition.

June 10th & 11th  | Special Olympics Summer Games

On June 10 and 11 we will witness the human spirit on full display at the 2017 Summer Games at California State University, Long Beach. Summer Games attracts more than 1,100 athletes from across Southern California who will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals and ribbons. The Games features our six summer sports — athletics (track & field), basketball, bocce, golf, gymnastics, and swimming

Summer Games is one of two annual championships held at the conclusion of each sport season, with athletes coming together from throughout Southern California.

June 10th | Family Craft & Play at Balloon Park

Kids, this quarterly event is all about you! Stop by and enjoy the evening and a break from your parents. Activities will include Star Wars-themed games, crafts, dinner, popcorn and a movie! Kids can bring a blanket and a pillow to relax on during the movie. parents must register in advance; limited space is available, so register today. Open to ages 4-13 years old.

June 11th | Orange County Museum of Art Family Craft & Play

Participate in Towers, Mazes, and Mirrors, a series of multi-generational, creative-play environments using every-day materials to explore structure, space, and optics with artists Edgar Arceneaux, Nery Gabriel Lemus, and John K. Chan of Formation Association.

Also includes a demonstration by exhibiting artist Carmen Argote; performances by Compass Dance; and an interactive music workshop with storytelling and live performances by Aristea and Josinaldo.

June 14th | Flag Day Celebration at Family Craft & Play

Join us today as we celebrate our countries flag and all that it stands for with the following educational activities:

  • Holiday History (11:30am): Pledge of Allegiance – When we pledge allegiance, we are saying how happy we are to live in the United States. Join us as we learn about the pledge and take a moment to recite the pledge together.
  • Symbols in Seconds (3:30pm): My First U.S. Flag – In Orange Plaza children will learn about the different elements of our flag such as the shapes, colors, and number of stripes as they create their own flag to take home.

June 15th | Sip & Shop at Kendra Scott

Celebrate the last day of school with a treat for yourself!  Champagne, treats, and 15% off at Kendra Scott!

June 16th | Seussical The Musical Youth Theatre

Join Buena Park Youth Theatre for their summer production of Seussical the Musical!

 

June 17th | Sesame Street Live 

Elmo and the rest of the Sesame Street residents band together to help Jenny the new music teacher after her instruments have been stolen. As they create new instruments, they get to share their own love of music. Youngsters, and perhaps parents too, will be singing and dancing along with this lively stage musical, which contains a number of classic pop songs along with popular Sesame Street tunes.

June 18th | Family Dance Jam at the Bowers Museum

“Family Dance Jam” is an inter-generational movement workshop designed for people of all ages, incorporating both open play and directed experience, ensuring that each participant and family gets their own unique dance party. The DJ spins global groves while the “Family Dance Jam” team of dancers help create an environment of fun and creativity. This is an event that is guaranteed to provide a good time for all family members.

June 23rd | World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

Adults and children (ages 3+) of all swimming abilities are invited to participate in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, a worldwide effort to raise awareness for drowning prevention. Join the City of Irvine as hundreds of aquatic centers, waterparks, pools and other facilities in more than 20 countries on five continents work together to spread the message that swimming lessons save lives.

Arrive at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center at 5:30 p.m. to sign up for the onsite swimming lesson to be held at 6 p.m. Then, stay for a free recreation swim and a screening of the movie Sing at dusk.

June 25th | Free Family Science Day 

FREE activities in the Muth Interpretive Center classroom, each month with a different educational theme to explore. The activities are self-guided and may include hands-on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more. No registration necessary.

June 26th | Family Autism Event at Pretend City

Enhance your child’s positive actions that benefit others, prompted by empathy, moral values, and a sense of personal responsibility!

Specifically, for: Families with children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum; Pretend City will be closed to the general public

June 28th | Doheny Surf Festival
