I’m a television-aholic. Feels good to admit it! Or bad? Hard to say. All I know is that when I find a show to binge watch, I can’t stop! Hence the television-aholic title.
The thing is I KNOW people attach bad connotations to watching television. So, I try not to talk about it too much. But the problem is I get so excited and I also have diarrhea of the mouth. True story.
I know I’m supposed to say that I only read books and craft and garden, but that would be a lie. I do LOVE books, but I also love watching television. I DO!
For me my television-aholic started when I was pretty young. First, it was movies. I’ve always loved watching movies. Movies were my thing in High School. I just loved them. I’d become obsessed with a certain actor or genre and spend the next few months pouring over the video store collection to check out every single movie I could. This was pre-internet so I literally had to search shelf by shelf in order to find what I was looking for.
The good news is that I worked at a video store so I was also being paid to search. $4.75 an hour never looked so good!
The problem with movies is that they are a little long. And now that I have kids I either lose interest quickly, fall asleep or get interrupted so many times that I am unable to follow the storyline.
Which is why television shows rock. And with the dawn of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Network Apps I can binge on any show I want. The television-aholic has been born!
Even though watching television has a bad rap I’d like to say that if it’s your thing, like me, that’s cool too! I love the stories that are told. Some of them are completely ridiculous and could NEVER happen, but then some hit so close to home that you can’t help but CRY {THIS IS US!}
I love a well-written, wonderfully acted, perfectly shot & edited television show.
Because it takes A LOT of work to make those shows. (Trust me I used to work for a big studio) And when a television show is made and is so good that you can’t stop watching, well that is pretty amazing.
So while I may have just outed myself as lame for being a television-aholic, I don’t care.
Television is my escape. It’s my time to not worry about the never-ending to-do list. It’s a chance for me to not think. Because honestly, I’m thinking about everything and everyone so much of the day that I can actually forget to do the simplest thing.
And because this wouldn’t be a post without naming a few names, here are some of my current favorite binge-worthy shows. Did your favorite make the list??
Schitt’s Creek
Suits
Friday Night Lights
The Mindy Project
House of Cards
Arrested Development
Parenthood
Parks & Rec
What shows made your list?
