My Top 5 Easter Memories

0

Growing up Easter was a very important holiday for our family.

I distinctly remember the excitement I had to wear my special Easter dress to church and unwrap the GIANT chocolate bunny that my aunt always sent.  And because Easter was so important I have a lot of great memories associated with it.  And so here are my top 5, in no particular order.

  1. Getting a new dress – My family didn’t have a ton of money when I was younger and so getting new clothes was something that didn’t happen very often.  However, at Easter time I knew I would be getting a special dress.  My mom always made me an Easter outfit.  Yes, she actually sewed one.  I vividly remember my white little dress with pale blues and pinks.
  2. My dad as the Easter Bunny – For some reason, my father decided to dress up as the Easter Bunny and hand out Easter eggs to all of the neighborhood kids.  At the time I somewhat still believed in the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy, etc.  Most of the kids in our neighborhood did as well.  However, my brother immediately recognized my father’s shoes and started to scream that the Easter Bunny was, in fact, his daddy.  I don’t quite remember what happened after that, but to this day we still make fun of my father for wearing the exact same pair of shoes year after year after year.
  3. Chicken Pox Easter – Living in Iowa and having a majority of my relatives live in New Jersey meant that most holidays were spent apart.  One particular Easter my Aunt, cousin, and grandmother came to visit.  The downside was that my brother had given me the chicken pox.  The upside was that we had so much fun we laughed until we peed our pants.
  4. First “Grown up” Easter – After moving to LA, I found a church that celebrated Easter at the Hollywood Bowl.  How very California of me.  It was the most amazing Easter service I had ever been to.  In fact, it was highly encouraged to pack your own brunch.  I don’t think there could possibly be a better way to worship than eating amazing croissants and drinking mimosas.
  5. My very own Easter with my kids – I had a lot of high expectations for my first Easter with the kids.  I wanted brunch to be perfect.  I wanted the food to be amazing.  The only thing I may have forgotten is that in order for the food to be perfect I really couldn’t attend church.  I also forgot that kids don’t understand the importance of brunch! So, the food was okay and of course, my kids weren’t the most thrilled, but I’ll always remember it.
