Healthy Breakfasts For Kids – is there such a thing?

If you are anything like me you may find yourself in a mad rush to get the kids up and out of the house in the mornings. Every single day, no matter how well I attempt to plan, something goes awry.

I am left scrambling to pack lunches, make sure their clothes is clean (I am a boy-mom so, heck they don’t even have to match), all homework is done, teeth are brushed, hair looks somewhat less slept-in (or there is a baseball hat nearby), among a myriad of other things.

If I can get a bowl of cereal down their throats or a toaster pastry in their hands while we are running out the door, then I am winning!

By no means am I proud of this oftentimes not-too-healthy method of feeding the kiddos, but hey I am in a hurry! After drop off, I am headed to work. My brain shifts focus to meetings, deadlines, emails that need to be returned, and more. It’s so easy to compromise on important things like preparing healthy breakfasts for the kids. I try to ensure that they eat good lunches, nutritious dinners, and aim for good for them snacks. They are in extracurricular sports, and they play outside whenever possible.

Why is it okay to skimp on breakfast?

The truth is, it’s not. It really is the most important meal–our growing kids need to kick off the day with good nutrition to set them up for success, and stay alert and energized during study and play time. While it’s easy to make quick preservative filled pantry staples my go-tos in the mornings, I know I can and must do better.

This collection of 10 healthy breakfast ideas for kids is full of great ideas for us moms on the go. Some are quick, some may take some careful planning. All are good and tasty options to get your child ready to tackle all the day has in store!
