With most school years ending this month in Orange County, you’re probably on the look-out for activities to fill all that free time with your children…we certainly are! We’ve got your weekdays covered with Orange County’s Ultimate Summer Camp Guide. But if you’re trying to find the best of all the many evening and weekend events to do with your family in Orange County, here’s our tippity-top picks for fun happenings this June 2018!
Parents Night Out At My Gym Yorba Linda
June 1 and June 15
You don’t have a be a My Gym member to have a parent’s night out! Drop off your kids for a high-energy evening of games, relays, music, dancing, a movie, and more! Pizza is included. This is a great way to try out My Gym if you don’t already have a membership. My kids LOVE going to My Gym and always have a great time there.
Old Town Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off
June 3
This is a family-oriented event celebrating the world’s largest one-day Chili Cook-Off. From their website: “There is something for everyone, from young children to teenagers to adults to grandparents. This event features a chili cook-off and salsa competition, a family plaza, kids zone, commercial vendors, craft booths, community groups, food, wine and beer gardens, community performances, live entertainment, inflatable attractions, contests, car exhibition, and much more!” This all day block party will be immediately followed by the Party In The Park concert featuring a performance by Stone Soul.
Admission is free. Chili tickets are $1, and one ticket per tasting cup. Alcohol wristbands must be purchased for $2 and valid ID. Beer and wine is available for purchase at $6/glass. All food vendors will only accept cash. Some commercial and craft vendors may also accept credit card and check in addition to cash.
Bolsa Chica State Beach Clean Up In Honor Of World Oceans Day
June 9
Looking for a way to celebrate this years World Oceans Day and help support our beautiful California coastline? Join the Orange County Coastkeepers in their effort to clean up our beaches! BYO clean up supplies (gloves, bag etc.). Last year with the help of thousands of volunteers they removed 7,200lbs of trash! Please sign up using the link in the title above.
All ages are free, but a $1 donation is suggested. Let the parking attendant at Tower 16 know that you are there for the “Beach Cleanup” to receive FREE parking.
Wilderness Preserve Guided Hike Through Trabuco Canyon
June 9
From their website: “Discover the beauty of Trabuco Rose where children can create nature-related crafts, learn about the surrounding protected lands, and enjoy a mild hike that’s fit for feet of all sizes! The free short and easy hike is a ½ mile one way. For those who want to trek the full-loop trail, the moderate hike is about two miles.”
Free, but registration is required through their website linked in the title above. All ages are welcome to attend with parent or guardian. Activities are appropriate for children ages 4 and over. No strollers are permitted on the trail.
Big Irish Fair and Music Festival at the Orange County Great Park
June 9-10
From their website: “The BIG Irish Fair has been viewed as a living Irish cultural center because it presents the very best in Irish music, song, dance and sport and is the largest Irish outdoor exhibition in the Western United States. From sheepherding shows to harp and fiddle competitions to ancient Irish displays and re-enactments to Gaelic sports to the absolute best in Celtic Rock and traditional Irish entertainment – the BIG Irish Fair is the event to visit to learn, enjoy and share the very best in all things Irish.”
Children 12 and under are free. Adults $25 ($20 advance online), seniors/students $20 ($17 advance online), and two-day pass $35 ($30 advance online). $4 off full adult price when you bring 5 cans of food to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. Free paved parking. Honoring women and men in uniform, they and their families are free (with service ID).
OC Night Market at OC Fair & Event Center
June 15-17
From their website: “OC Night Market features 200+ food, merchandise, crafts, arts, games, music, and entertainment attractions in an epic event that appeals to all ages with 40,000+ attendees per event. 626 Night Market aims to unite and empower the community by serving as a platform for showcasing local entrepreneurs, businesses, artists, and talent.”
Starts at 4pm. Admission is $5 at the door. Children 3 and under are free. Parking is $8. Both admission and parking are cash only. Most vendors accept cash only and ATMs are available.
Truck Adventures at the OC Fair & Event Center
June 16
This one’s for our resident truckin’ mama, Heather Bailey. From their website: “Children of all ages will enjoy more trucks and vehicles than they ever imagined and interact with the professionals who drive them. Every truck is a playhouse, a photo op, and a mini-adventure for everyone in the family (including the big kids)!”
Tickets are $15 for everyone ages 1 and up. Parking is $8/per vehicle. For people with noise sensitivity, horn & siren-free hours are 9-11am (how thoughtful is that??).
OC Parks Sunset Summer Cinema
June 16 and every Friday OR Saturday night during the summer until September 14
From their website: “OC Parks Sunset Cinema film series brings the big screen to your favorite regional parks. Fourteen free movie screenings will take place on select dates from June 16 2018 – September 14 2018 in alternating Orange County California Parks. OC Parks Sunset Cinema is a Orange County Free Family Friendly Event.” The series kicks off with the JUNGLE BOOK (2016, live action rated PG) and includes other family crowd pleasers like TROLLS, THE KARATE KID, and MOANA.
Free Admission and free parking starting at 6:00pm (screening starts at 8:00pm). Food trucks will be serving at each location and a beer and wine garden will be available at some locations to those 21 and over for an additional charge.
Father’s Day Adventure At Sea With The Ocean Institute
June 16
Has dad always dreamed of being a pirate? Or yearn for a life at sea? Treat him to this once-in-a-lifetime day on the water. From their website: “Sign aboard for an exciting voyage on a real tallship! First, you and dad will enjoy breakfast burritos, fresh fruit, and a beer (for dad) and juice on our Historic Maritime Wharf. Cruisin’ Brea Classic Car Show on Father’s Day

Day Of Music Fullerton

Celebrate the summer solstice with a variety of free musical events throughout the city of Fullerton. Over 150 concerts at 40+ venues are expected this year including Fiddlers on the Roof, Bach on the Block, Burger Bowl by Burger Records and more. All musicians—amateur or professional, young or old—are invited to take part in the festival. Musicians must register by June 1. See website for schedule of events and various locations.

OC Parks Summer Concert Series
June 21 and every Thursday during the summer until August 23
From their website: “The County of Orange and OC Parks welcome back the annual outdoor summer concert series with 10 free concerts at Craig Regional Park, Mason Regional Park, Mile Square Regional Park, Irvine Regional Park and Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach. Each event will offer free live music and food trucks under the summer sky on Thursday evenings…. The series kicks off June 21 at Craig Regional Park in Fullerton with singer-songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter & Adam Lasher opening the Summer Concert Series.” Other notable performances include Flashback Heart Attack featuring Matt Baxter (July 12) and Tijuana Dogs and Family Style (August 23). Should be a fun time!
Admission and parking are free. Open to the public of all ages. Concertgoers 21 and over can purchase beer and wine at the beer tent. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for guests to enjoy the beer garden, food trucks, and to save their spot on the grass for the concert. All concerts are from 6 to 8 p.m.
Fountain Valley Summerfest
June 21-24
This three day celebration of summertime fun includes live entertainment, beer garden, non-profit food booths, carnival rides and games. Friday night features fireworks, while Saturday includes a Car Show. Lots of fun for the whole family. Special food truck line-up on Preview Night too.
Thursday June 21 is Preview Night and rides are $1 that night only. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the rates are: 1 ticket = $1.25. 20 tickets = $20. 31 tickets = $25. Rides typically require 3-4 tickets. Unlimited Ride Wristbands are good for one full day (excluding Thursday Preview Day) of unlimited carnival rides. Each wristband is only good for one person. Purchase your unlimited ride wristband in advance online for $25 and select a local nonprofit or school/athletic group as a fundraising beneficiary (they will receive $4 for each wristband sold when they are selected). Or for $30 at the event.
Huntington Beach Central Library’s Summer Reading Program’s Kick-Off Carnival
June 23
Every year the library throws this fun carnival to celebrate the beginning of their summer reading program, which runs June 23rd-August 4th. Bring your children to sign up and stay for the games, face-painting, shows in the Tabby Theater, crafts, music, balloons, and food. Show line up includes Billy Bonkers Magic, Brother Yusef’s exuberant music, and H.B. Singers Company’s song and dance performances.
Entrance and parking are free. Carnival tickets are .50 each or a strip of 11 for $5. Buy a wristband for unlimited games for $10 each. Show tickets are $5 and on sale now. Food vendors take cash.
Family Game Day At La Habra Community Center
June 23
From their website: “Don’t miss this exciting afternoon of activities that will feature a variety of games for all ages. Lunch will be served to all participants. Open to children ages 4-13 with an accompanying parent/guardian.”
